About the Centre for Forensic Neuroscience
The Centre for Forensic Neuroscience provides independent expertise in the scientific assessment of credibility, behaviour, and evidence. Our work is grounded in objectivity, research, and professional integrity. We do not take sides; our role is to offer clear, evidence-based analysis that helps clients reach informed conclusions.
Our focus is not on promoting a single method or approach, but on understanding the truth as accurately as possible through the careful application of forensic neuroscience, contemporary research, and specialist knowledge. We combine scientific rigour with practical expertise to support legal, clinical, and investigative contexts where reliability and impartiality are essential.

Our Founder
A Legacy of Excellence
Established in 2002, the Centre for Forensic Neuroscience is led by its founder and lead expert, Dr Keith Ashcroft, a Consultant Investigative Psychologist. He has provided independent, expert psychological reports in both civil and criminal cases and has given evidence at the highest levels, including the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Professional Accreditations
Dr Ashcroft is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and holds full Chartered Scientist status from the Science Council. He is a full member of the International Academy of Investigative Psychology and the British Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. Additionally, he holds qualifications in civil and commercial mediation.
As a member of the Cyberpsychology Section of the British Psychological Society, he brings specialised knowledge to cases involving the police and prison services, with a particular focus on sexual offences and violent crimes.
Specialist Expertise
Over the past decade, Dr Ashcroft has provided consultation on threat assessment, violence risk assessment, violence prevention, and corporate security. He offers expertise in multiple interviewing methodologies to assess credibility, including forensic psychophysiology, psychological profiling, and Deviant Sexual Interest examinations (PPG) across criminal, clinical, and employment contexts.
Within the field of victimology, he applies specialist skills in investigative hypnosis to assist victims of sexual and violent crimes in recalling significant details regarding their assailants.
Polygraph & Forensic Expertise
As a Forensic Polygraph Consultant and Examiner, Dr Ashcroft is a full member of the American Polygraph Association, the National Polygraph Association, and the American Association of Police Polygraphists. His foundational training was completed at the British Polygraph Academy in London, an institution fully accredited by the American Polygraph Association and the British Accreditation Council.
In the context of therapeutic polygraph testing, he holds memberships with the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH) and the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (ATSAC). He is a full professional member of the Society for Forensic Interviewers and is fully qualified in Post-Conviction Sex Offender Testing (PCSOT), following advanced instruction at the Behavioral Measures Polygraph Training Center.
He maintains his methodological proficiency through advanced courses accredited by the Backster School of Lie Detection and the Peak Credibility Assessment Training Center.
Academic & Research Background
Dr Ashcroft’s expertise is supported by over two decades of university research in clinical and forensic psychophysiology. This includes work associated with the University of Mainz, Victoria University, Manchester Medical School, the University of Edinburgh Medical School, and the Department of Psychotherapeutic Studies at the University of Sheffield.
He has actively contributed to the integration of forensic psychophysiology into legal practice, working in collaboration with the Lancashire Law School. His academic and practical focus extends to non-verbal communication and behavioural analysis, on which he regularly presents.
Additionally, Dr Ashcroft provides technical consultation to international news media and film productions regarding the accurate portrayal of polygraph examinations and forensic instrumentation, with past advisement for major projects including Berlin Station and Oliver Stone's Snowden.
